Remembering Harry Caray

The Chicago Cubs have made it to the playoffs this year. Maybe the curse has been broken and the Cubs can go all the way this year. Time will tell. If only Harry Caray were still around to call the game!

The team has been to the World Series 10 times, most recently in 1945. Unfortunately, The Cubs have not won a World Series in 108 years, and they have not won the National League pennant in 71 years. Both of those “droughts” are records in Major League Baseball.

In honor of the Cubs making it to the National League Championship Series this year, I thought it would be fun to dig out some old audio from “The Rick and Scott” show from the 1990’s.

At the time, there was a comedian who would make the rounds named John Caponera. He was from Chicago and was a big Cubs fan. At one point in 1994 he starred in the TV series “The Good Life”. Drew Carey was Caponera’s co-star. The show only lasted one season. (I’ve included a clip of the show at the bottom of this post).

John was being interviewed by a radio personality named Robert J. Wright. Robert used to do morning radio in Grand Rapids at WKLQ in the late 80’s. He still does mornings down in Shreveport, LA.  Here is a clip of the interview where John launches into his comedy act about the late Harry Caray…

Oh how I miss Harry Caray calling a Cubs baseball game!

Here is a video of Harry leading the crowd at Wrigley Field in “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”…

Here is John Caponera’s official website.

And here is the clip of “The Good Life” from 22 years ago…
